Café Restaurant ORANG.erie sits tucked away at Maxingstraße 13a, offering a casual yet diverse café experience right inside the Tiergarten Schönbrunn (Vienna Zoo) area. Its atmosphere blends the easy-going vibe of a café with enough seating to accommodate visitors looking for a break during their zoo strolls, making it a practical spot for families, tourists, and locals who enjoy a relaxed midday pause.

The menu covers a broad range of options beyond just coffee—from simple Café to Go and solid espresso offerings like Kava and Costa coffee to more substantial meals including schnitzel, grilled chicken breast with vegetable noodles, fried chicken burgers, as well as some Austrian classics like Schinkenfleckerl and Currywurst with fries. This variety means it works well both for quick snacks and longer sit-down lunches, especially for those who need a filling meal without leaving the lush surroundings of the zoo.

Outdoor seating benefits from mist sprayers, a welcome feature during warmer days that helps maintain comfort when it’s sunny or bustling. The seating arrangement allows glimpses of the zoo’s orangutans, which adds a unique touch to a typical café break—something visitors often notice adds a curious element to the dining experience.

Visitors will likely find the food straightforward and fairly priced for what it offers, though portions and flavor lean towards the familiar rather than adventurous. Service tends to be prompt and friendly, helping counterbalance any feeling of slight premium cost. The setting makes it especially suited for parents with children, zoo visitors needing a rest, or groups who want to gather outdoors without straying far from the Tiergarten’s main pathways.

For locals, this spot might not be a daily coffee destination but rather a convenient and comfortable stop when visiting the zoo or nearby green spaces. Early afternoons or late mornings on warmer days are ideal times to enjoy the shaded terraces and the mix of natural and casual urban energy. Those seeking a distinctly Viennese café vibe will find it somewhat more practical and functional than atmospheric, yet it remains a useful part of the neighborhood’s landscape for combining good enough food, decent coffee, and a side of wildlife observation.

The food is average and pricy but combined with good service and plenty of mist sprayers outside it was great :)

I had a very nice Rhubarb Cake (seasonal dessert) and the Costa coffee taste even better. Lucky for me to find this inside the TierGarden (Zoo).
